Thursday, May 6th was a special, albeit unusual, day at SSCCA.
In a typical year, JK – 8th grade classes would present songs and selections to a sanctuary full of supportive grandparents, thrilled to see what their grandchildren were learning at SSCCA. Following the program, happy grandkids would escort their grandparents to the gym where they would enjoy a special lunchtime together, followed by the ever-exciting “early Friday dismissal” to allow for some special “grandchild/grandparent time” (and perhaps a break for mom or dad!).
But as we know all too well, this year was far from typical.
Determined not to let Covid-19 cancel SSCCA’s 11th Annual Grandparents Day, Academy leadership needed a new plan. Enter Ryan Geldermann: SSCCA parent, renowned DC wedding videographer, and owner of Shutter and Sound Films, who created his newest venture, PARTY STREAMERS, to help people and businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic through the use of live streaming technology. Thanks to Ryan’s generosity and talent, the entirety of SSCCA’s Grandparents’ Day program was live streamed for all SSCCA grandparents to see.
From grammar songs, to history and science songs, to Latin hymns and prayers, to selections on the recorder, to scenes from “Out of Darkness,” an Adaptation of Agamemnon – the program lacked no enthusiasm and no rigor. It simply lacked an in-person audience!
We are grateful for the creative minds and generous people that enabled the “show to go on” for SSCCA’s 11th Annual Grandparents’ Day! Watch the live stream here.
